Playing
tournament chess - Time limit
When using a chess clock you will be expected to make a
certain amount of moves in a certain amount of time. In
international play 40 moves within 2 1/2 hours would be
considered typical. Meaning that the first session lasts
a maximum of five hours and during that time each player
has to make 40 moves.
More moves can be played, but
many players prefer to stop at the 40th move so that
they can think about their position during a break.
